Camp Squeah Update - May 12, 2021

Camp Squeah is looking forward to
welcoming campers and staff this summer!

We are eagerly looking forward to running safe Family Camps, Go Beyond Jr. Kids Camps, and an introductory women’s wilderness backpacking trip this summer. Although the Public Health Authority has not yet authorized residential overnight camps for youth, we are currently still optimistic that Day Camps, Family Camps, and small cohort wilderness trips are still deemed as safe and permissible. Head to summer registration to sign up. It’s going to be a summer for the ages! The first family camp in July is already full and spots will be limited this year due to remaining Covid restrictions. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach us at tim@squeah.com or 604-869-5353.

With plans to operate moving ahead we still have quite a few vacant summer staff positions to fill. Applications have been slowly coming in while we’ve been waiting for clarification from the government and Health Authority. The good news is that, while we’ve been waiting, Canada Summer Jobs has confirmed funding for up to 21 summer staff positions! That, for us, is unprecedented and couldn’t have come at a more crucial time. We are currently filling a number of 10 week leadership positions, as well as 8 week summer staff positions. These positions include kitchen staff, camp cleaning/maintenance, lifeguard, First Aid attendant, and camp leadership team members. If you love Jesus and would love to serve along with us in this beautiful outdoor camp setting sharing the good news of Jesus to children and families, please sign up today! Staff applications are available online.

Thankful Hearts

We give thanks to the MCBC Women’s Ministry who designated the offering collected at their virtual Women’s Day to helping Camp Squeah during this pandemic. It was so great to receive these inspiring gifts, oftentimes with encouragement notes attached. To date we’ve received $2,665.00. Thank-you!! In a year where earned revenue is relatively nonexistent with so many remaining fixed expenses, every penny helps us better steward the operation of this vital ministry. Knowing we are not left to face our challenges alone brings comfort and encouragement 😊. That said, the challenges remain daunting. If you’re in a position to help and would like to add your support please contact Rob Tiessen, Executive Director at rob@squeah.com or donate directly online

Prayers for Camp Squeah

May 31st is National Pray for Camps day!  While we encourage everybody to set some time aside on that day to pray for us, why wait?  Please join us now in….

  • Praying for the tide to turn and for immunization to overtake the out-of-control variant infections.
  • Praying for clarity from the health and government authorities re: options available to us as it relates to summer programming.
  • Praying for opportunities to be a part of a healing and restorative solution after 1.5 years of uncertainty and caution.
  • Praying that we can be content in the circumstances that are beyond our control so that we can shine God’s light and love to our communities in transformative ways.
  • Praying  for creative vision for how to fulfill our mission in meaningful ways as we continue to adapt to the shifting landscape.
  • Praying for Christ-centered, others-focused young adult servants who will be able to adjust with us to face the new challenges.
  • Praying for health and safety among our staff and camper communities.
  • Praying for ongoing financial relief.
  • Praying for mental health relief.
